"State of Grace" is an unreleased song by American recording artist Britney Spears, intended for her fifth studio album, Blackout. It was written by Steve Lee, Steve Anderson and Lisa Greene, and produced by the previous pair.
Background[]
"State of Grace" is a mid-tempo ballad with a stereo sound and a more minimalist production compared to the predominant electronic and urban style of Blackout.
The song reflects an atmosphere of hope and overcoming, which contrasts with the album's more provocative and dark themes. It speaks of finding peace and fulfillment, possibly a nod to a more stable emotional state.
Later given to and recorded by French singer Christophe Willem as "Entre Nous Et Le Sol" for his second album, Caféine (2009).
The demo performed by Lisa Greene has leaked. You can listen Greene and Spears' versions here and here.
Lyrics[]
[Chorus]
Love is a state of grace
Transcending time and space
No other way I can describe
Insanely beautiful
It's almost mystical
’Cause you're mine
[Post-Chorus]
And I can't believe that I feel
What I feel
Such a strange kind of real
Love is a state of grace
Between you and I, I
[Verse 1]
Golden, broken, I didn’t know
One touch could open my body and soul
And we've just begun
Like the moon and sun
We fade to one
[Chorus]
Love is a state of grace
Transcending time and space
No other way I can describe
Insanely beautiful
It's almost mystical
'Cause you're mine
[Post-Chorus]
And I can't believe that I feel that I feel
What I feel what I feel
Such a strange kind of real such a strange
Love is a state of grace
Between you and I, I
[Interlude]
And the way that we feel
Is a dream that we know is real
Love is a state of grace (Yeah)
Love is a state of grace
[Chorus]
Love is a state of grace
Transcending time and space
No other way I can describe
Insanely beautiful
It's almost mystical
'Cause you’re mine
’Cause you're mine
Oh, you’re mine
[Outro]
Love is a state of grace
