Britney Spears Wiki

Scrapped eighth studio album is a placeholder title for an unreleased music project by American recording artist Britney Spears written and recorded from 2012 to early 2013, intended to be released as her ninth studio album in 2013.

This project is also known as the original version of Britney Jean before executive producers shifted Anthony Preston and will.i.am.

Background[]

Spears originally planned for her eighth studio album to have a hip-hop-influenced sound, something she personally confirmed.[1] Several hip-hop producers who worked with her at the time also backed this up.[2] The album was expected to be released in 2013.

On October 26, 2012, Spears posted to her Twitter account: "I heard Happy Birthday Blackout was trending earlier... thank u all for loving the album as much as I do. Blackout 2.0?"[3]

However, after the success of "Scream & Shout", her team decided to push for an EDM and electropop direction instead. This led to will.i.am and Anthony Preston being brought in as executive producers, and much of the original material was scrapped by RCA Records.

Spears had started recording the album during the second season of The X Factor USA in 2012. A session with producer Darkchild was even caught on camera. According to her background vocalist, Myah Marie, Spears had been working on a completely different album before will.i.am came in.
