"Rebellion" is an unreleased song by American recording artist Britney Spears, intended for her fifth studio album, Blackout.

Background[]

In June 2006, "Rebellion" was first teased when Spears posted a twelve-second snippet on the main page of her website, followed by a fifty-second snippet with alternate production. It was accompanied by an animation of her face transforming into a Bengal Tiger over the sound of growls and loud breathing.[1] Jive later forced Spears to remove the snippet from her site,[2] mentioning it "wasn’t the direction Jive Records was looking to take Britney in."[3]

The song is accompanied by a hip-hop beat with heavy strings and dark production. Spears speaks of a rebellion against a group of people, presumably her management, aswell as loss of trust towards the people around her. The song is produced by Christopher "Notes" Olsen, who also produced another unreleased song, "I've Been Loving You Too Long" and tour mixes for The M+M's Tour.[4][5] Notes' sister said he “absolutely knew Britney [wanted] to be raw…. She wanted to be this kind of rebel… she [was] ready to grow.”

The song was included on an early version of her fifth studio album, which included other songs produced by Notes and Doug Elkins.[6]

In 2019, Sam Lutfi posted a Twitter photo of possible demo CDs, with one having "Rebell" written on it, indicating he may have the full song. Notes' sister said music publisher Jonathan Stone may also have it.[7]

Lyrics[]

...'Cause you're rebellion

[Verse ?]
Be wary of others
The ones closest to you
The poison they feed you
And the voodoo that they do
But in rebellion
There's a sparkle of truth
Don't just stand there
Do what you got to do

[Chorus]
You'll find it in rebellion
Your body starts breathing
They're not believing what they're seeing
'Cause you're rebellion
You'll find it so compelling
With everyone yelling
'Cause your soul, you're not selling
'Cause you're rebellion

[Verse 1]
You might not believe it
But trust me this is true
You fall for their poison
And become a part of their crew
I'm in a rebellion
And I'm up against the truth
So will you join me?
Or will you be taken too?

[Chorus]
You'll find it in rebellion
Your body starts breaking in
They're not believing what they're seeing
'Cause you're rebellion
You'll find it so compelling
'Cause everyone's yelling
'Cause your soul you're not selling
'Cause you're rebellion

[Verse 2]
Be wary of others
The ones closest to you
The poison they feed you
And the voodoo that they do
But in rebellion there's a sparkle of truth
Don't just stand there
Do what you got to do

[Chorus]
You'll find it in rebellion
You'll finally start breathing
They're not believing what they're seeing
'Cause you're rebellion
You'll find it so compelling
With everyone yelling
'Cause your soul you're not selling
'Cause you're rebellion

[Bridge]
The eye that is deceiving is the one trapping us in
I'm fighting a losing battle and my patience is wearing thin
But in rebellion there's a glimmer of light
And nobody claims the crown without some sacrifice

[Chorus]
You'll find it in rebellion
You'll finally start breathing
They're not believing what they're seeing
'Cause you're rebellion
You'll find it so compelling
With everyone yelling
'Cause your soul you're not selling
'Cause you're rebellion

[Chorus]
You'll find it in rebellion
You'll finally start breathing
They're not believing what they're seeing
'Cause you're rebellion
You'll find it so compelling
With everyone yelling
'Cause your soul you're not selling
'Cause you're rebellion
