"Radar" is a song by American recording artist Britney Spears. It was released on October 25, 2007, taken from her fifth full-length studio album, Blackout, and appears as the third track on every edition of the album. The song was originally intended to be the album’s fourth single planned around mid-2008, but the release was cancelled. It was later re-released on June 22, 2009, as the fourth and final single from Spears' sixth full-length studio album, Circus, where it appears as the thirtheenth track on every edition of the album.
Background[]
"Radar" was written and produced by Bloodshy & Avant and the Clutch, with additional writing from Henrik Jonback.
The song is listed in the BMI repertoire, crediting Spears as the performer.[1]
Ezekiel Lewis wanted to work with her for a long time and was motivated to produce something for her that was going to "help her project become a great project to come back with". Patrick Smith stated that the team tried to create a record "for the Britney Spears that we know and love" and that it did not "touch on anything that was really dealing with all the stuff that she was dealing with." Both commented that although Spears arrived late to the recording sessions, she caught them off guard with her efficiency and professionalism, with Lewis adding, "It was absolutely nuts, and she took directions very well. [...] I don’t know what I was expecting because we went in to cut that record the day after she filed divorce from Kevin [Federline]."[2]
"Radar" was originally planned to be released as the third single from Blackout, according to Lewis. "Break the Ice" was released instead and "Radar" was chosen as the fourth single. In July 2008, a physical promotional single was released in countries such as New Zealand and Sweden.[3] However, a wider release was scrapped when Spears began recording new material for her sixth studio album, Circus.[4] On May 7, 2009, the song was announced as the fourth single from Circus.[5]

Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
Confidence is a must
Cockiness is a plus
Edginess is a rush
Edges, I like them rough
A man with a Midas touch
Intoxicate me, I'm a lush
Stop, you're making me blush
People are looking at us
[Pre-Chorus]
I don't think you know (Know)
[Chorus]
I'm checking you, so hot, so hot
Wonder if you know you're on my radar (On my radar)
On my radar (On my radar)
And yep, I notice you
I know it's you I'm choosing
Don't wanna lose you, you on my radar (On my radar)
On my radar (On my radar)
When you walk (When you walk)
And when you talk (When you talk)
I get the tingle, I wanna mingle
That's what I want (That's what I want)
Hey, listen, baby, turn up the fader
Tryna make you understand you're on my radar (On my radar)
On my radar (On my radar)
[Post-Chorus]
On my radar
Got you on my radar
Got you on my radar
Got you on my radar
[Verse 2]
Interesting sense of style
Ten million dollar smile
Think I can’t handle that animal in the sack
His eyes see right to my soul
I surrender self-control
Catch me looking again
Falling right into my plan
[Pre-Chorus]
I don't think you know (Know)
[Chorus]
I'm checking you, so hot, so hot
Wonder if you know you're on my radar (On my radar)
On my radar (On my radar)
And yep, I notice you
I know it's you I'm choosing
Don't wanna lose you, you on my radar (On my radar)
On my radar (On my radar)
When you walk (When you walk)
And when you talk (When you talk)
I get the tingle, I wanna mingle
That's what I want (That's what I want)
Hey, listen, baby, turn up the fader
Tryna make you understand you're on my radar (On my radar)
On my radar (On my radar)
[Post-Chorus]
On my radar
Got you on my radar
Got you on my radar
Got you on my radar
On my radar
Got you on my radar
Got you on my radar
Got you on my radar
[Spoken Interlude]
I got my eye on you
And I can’t let you get away
[Bridge]
Hey, baby, whether it's now or later (I gotcha)
You can’t shake me (No)
'Cause I got you on my radar
And whether you like it or not, it ain't gonna stop
'Cause I got you on my radar (I gotcha)
'Cause I got you on my radar
[Chorus]
I'm checking you, so hot, so hot
Wonder if you know you're on my radar (On my radar)
On my radar (On my radar)
And yep, I notice you
I know it's you I'm choosing
Don't wanna lose you, you on my radar (On my radar)
On my radar (On my radar)
When you walk (When you walk)
And when you talk (When you talk)
I get the tingle, I wanna mingle
That's what I want (That's what I want)
Hey, listen, baby, turn up the fader
Tryna make you understand you're on my radar (On my radar)
On my radar (On my radar)
[Post-Chorus]
On my radar
Got you on my radar
Got you on my radar
Got you on my radar
On my radar
Got you on my radar
Got you on my radar
Got you on my radar
[Outro]
Da-da-da-da-da-da-da
Da-da-da-da-da-da-da, da-da
Da-da-da-da-da-da-da
Da-da-da-da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da-da
Chart Performance[]
"Radar" was not officially released as a single from Blackout, but it charted due to strong digital sales and airplay, peaking at number 52 on the U.S. Hot Digital Songs chart on November 17, 2007. In 2008, it reached number 32 in Ireland, number 8 in Sweden, and number 32 in New Zealand. Later, it was confirmed as the fourth single from Circus in 2009. As a result, it re-entered various charts, peaking at number 30 on the U.S. Pop Songs chart, number 88 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 65 in Canada, and number 46 in both the UK and Australia.
Music video[]
In June 2008, a music video for "Radar" was originally planned for the Blackout version, featuring Spears and friends chasing a man through clubs, but it was cancelled along with the single release. A new video was later filmed for the Circus version on May 27–28, 2009, at Bacara Resort & Spa in Santa Barbara, directed by Dave Meyers. Inspired by Madonna’s “Take a Bow,” the video presented a classy, European-style romantic triangle set at a polo mansion. It featured no dancing, focusing instead on storytelling and elegance. The video shows Spears caught between two men, ultimately leaving her boyfriend for another man, symbolized by her discarded necklace and a final walk into the sunset.
