About songs[]

  • The dialogue in "Oops!... I Did It Again" is spoken by Spears and the song's writer and producer, Max Martin.
  • Spears' cover of The Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" received a mixed response. The band initially refused her request to cover the song, but she recorded it anyway.
    • 22 years later, Mick Jagger, the lead singer of The Rolling Stones, which sung the song said that Spears's cover of the song was "good" in an interview with Rock And Roll Garage.[1]
  • During a press interview in 2000, she said that "Dont Let Me Be the Last to Know" is her favorite song from the album.
  • Spears' mother considered the video for "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know" very racy, and wanted to censor some scenes.
  • "When Your Eyes Say It" was considered as the fourth single, but "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know" was chosen instead.
  • "Dear Diary" is the second released song that Spears co-wrote after "I'm So Curious".
  • There were six alternate endings written for "Dear Diary", but so far, none of them have leaked. It is unknown if these versions were recorded.
  • "Dear Diary" originally had a less positive ending, with Spears finding out her love interest was holding hands with her best friend and learning about heartache. It was later removed from the song in fear of upsetting her younger fans.
    • The change of the ending is probably the reason why the song is so short. The song ended up being 2 minutes and 46 seconds long.
  • An alternate R&B version of "You Got It All" was originally recorded for ...Baby One More Time, and was included on a rare promotional tape in 1998. A new version was later released on the album.
    • It is rumored that "You Got It All" was the first track Spears ever recorded when she started work on that album.
  • "Where Are You Now" was supposed to be on ...Baby One More Time in place of "I Will Be There"

  • "Girl Next Door", a song by girl group Lucy Street written by Jörgen Elofsson and produced by Per Magnusson and David Krueger, was originally written with Spears in mind for the album, but the song ended up being rejected
  • "He Loves U Not", a song by girl group Dream written by Steve Kipner, David Frank and Pam Sheyne, was originally written with Spears in mind for the album, but they decided to give it to the group.
  • "You Know I Can", a song by girl group Eden's Crush written by Steve Kipner, Andy Goldmark and David Frank, was originally written with Spears in mind for the album, but they decided to give it to the group.
  • A song titled "Asking For Trouble", written and produced by Per Magnusson and Jörgen Elofsson, was intended to be on the album, but was scrapped later on for unknown reasons. It is the only scrapped song from the album that was not given to another artist and is not available to listen to in any form.
    • The song has been placed on an unofficial tracklist. However, various songs from the tracklist ended up being used on the album (or the B-sides of the album).[2]
  • Oops!... I Did It Again, along with Spears' eighth studio album, Britney Jean, are the only Spears albums from which, to date, no unreleased songs recorded by her have been leaked.
    • In the case of Britney Jean, it is known that Spears recorded several songs that were scrapped, but in this album, it is unknown if Spears recorded unreleased songs apart from those already mentioned, which were rejected and confirmed to be not recorded.
    • "I've Got the Urge (to Herbal)" is generally considered an outtake from the album, but it is known that it was intended to be used as a promotional song for a Herbal Essences campaign and not to be on the album.

About media[]

  • Media often referred to the album as Oops! rather than its given title. In 2002, Spears clarified the alternate title to be a marketing tactic.
  • Sunflower and Platinum 2000 were considered to be the title for the album. However, these names were scrapped, with the project having Oops!...I Did It Again as the title.
  • Oops!... I Did It Again held the record for the highest debut-week album sales by a female artist for fifteen years, before being broken by Adele's 25 in 2015.
  • Spears called the album "better" than her debut effort, ...Baby One More Time.
  • Spears wanted the album to be more hip-hop adjacent, saying that the album is "a little bit more mature sounding", with it having "a little more of a hip-hop flair".[3]
  • The artwork "Lucky", "Oops!... I Did It Again" and the album were all taken on the same day by the photographer Mark Seliger.
  • The artwork for the album used on streaming plataforms was a booklet scan for a long time. A staple was visible on the side of the picture. This cover was later changed by new reworked artwork, it was changed on all plataforms on October 19th, 2024. *
