"Just Luv Me" is a song by American recording artist Britney Spears, taken from her ninth full length album, Glory.
Background[]
Spears posted a message on Twitter hinting at the very same track, making a strong case to believe it’ll be on the upcoming album, stating "JUST finished recording some vox. LOVE this song. It makes ME smile, and I hope it will make you smile too... #B9."
Composition[]
"Just Luv Me" is a woozy and minimalist hip hop, dancehall and R&B song with a skeletal funk arrangement and flourishes of acoustic-techno guitar. On it, Spears' vocals are understated and "smoothed out by filters and effects". Lyrically, it is one of the album's "glimpses of vulnerability", centered around a "neediness for love that verges on self-victimisation." The song's minimalist sound was also compared to the works of American singer Selena Gomez.[1]
Critical Reception[]
The track would Go On to Receive Critical Acclaim, Michael Cragg of The Observer called the song "excellent".[2] Bradley Stern of PopCrush deemed "Just Luv Me" Glory 's "true centerpiece", adding that "this intimate, shadowy affair is the pop star doing what she does best", also praising its "rich and luscious" production.[3] Alex Macpherson of The Guardian commended the song for "us[ing] all the tools of the big-room dance banger (rising synths, clapping beats) and dia[lling] them all down masterfully".[4] Attitude 's Joe Passmore highlighted the song as a standout on its parent album, but adding that it "sounds like it would fit nicely onto either Justin Bieber or Selena Gomez's most recent albums".[5]
Lyrics[]
[Intro]
Just luv me
(Just luv me)
Just luv me
[Verse 1]
I'm not gonna ask for a sip when I'm thirsty
And you don't have to hold my hand when I'm hurting
Won't make you sober me up when I'm turning
And you don't gotta say it, I know that I'm worthy
[Pre-Chorus]
You could ask me for a sorry
And a calm before the storm
Ask for pieces of my body
Until all of it was yours
[Chorus]
But I'm not gonna ask you for nothing
Just luv me, just luv me
I'ma keep it simple, real simple
Just luv me, just luv me
I'm not gonna ask you for nothing
Just luv me, just luv me
I'ma keep it simple, real simple
Just luv me, just luv me, just luv me
[Verse 2]
If you think that I'm saying it because I'm high maintenance
Like I'm trying to mask every problem that I'm facing
Well, you're wrong, 'cause I don't need nobody when I'm breaking
All I need is your luv and a little bit of patience
[Pre-Chorus]
You could ask me for a sorry
And a calm before the storm
Ask for pieces of my body
Until all of it was yours
[Chorus]
But I'm not gonna ask you for nothing
Just luv me, just luv me
I'ma keep it simple, real simple
Just luv me, just luv me
I'm not gonna ask you for nothing
Just luv me, just luv me
I'ma keep it simple, real simple
Just luv me, just luv me, just luv me
I'm not gonna ask you for nothing
Just luv me
I'm not gonna ask you for nothing
Just luv me
[Bridge]
Oh no, I won't, I promise, I promise
Oh no, I won't ask you for nothing
Oh no, I won't, I promise, I promise
I promise, I promise
[Chorus]
But I'm not gonna ask you for nothing
Just luv me, just luv me
I'ma keep it simple, real simple
Just luv me, just luv me
I'm not gonna ask you for nothing
Just luv me, just luv me
I'ma keep it simple, real simple
Just luv me, just luv me, just luv me
[Outro]
Oh no, I won't, I promise, I promise
Oh no, I won't ask you for nothing
Oh no, I won't, I promise, I promise
I promise, I promise
I'm not gonna ask you for nothing
Just luv me (Just luv me)
