The announcement of Britney: Domination announcement was confirmed by Spears on October 12, 2018, during a surprise appearance on the The Ellen DeGeneres Show.[1] The residency show was described to have a “urban, street, and hip-hop" vibe.
On October 18, 2018, the announcement was broadcasted live on Ellen DeGeneres YouTube channel in Las Vegas, Nevada, outside Park MGM.
After a video screening and introduction, Spears walked up to the platform, walked down the stairs, quickly signed some autographs, and was escorted through the crowd by her team to a waiting van and off she went. The reception to this announcement was criticized by the public and media for being chaotic and for how Spears seemed to be in a hurry to leave.[2]

On January 4, 2019, A social media manager announced in a lengthy paragraph that Britney was going on a 'Indefinite Work Hiatus, and cancelling the residency show to take care of her dad Jamie Spears who had a sudden rupture in his colon and had to be hospitalised immediately and be with her family.
On April 16, 2019, A voice message from an anonymous former paralegal that at the time worked in the conservatorship was featured in an emergency episode of Spears' Gram. He claimed that Spears was not taking her new medication and was being held in a treatment facility against her will from mid January to April. The paralegal also said Jamie verbatim said "blame it on my illness'", by calling off the residency show.
On April 23, 2019, When media outlets picked up on this, Spears responded in a Instagram video after going silent from what looked like in the treatment facility bridges to recovery saying all is well and a lengthy caption attached stating her management team is receiving threats, mentions the emails from 2007 claiming they were written by Sam Lutfi pretending to be her and to respect her privacy.
2 years later, it would be revealed by Spears in court on June 23, 2021, that she was coerced by her dad and management to do the Piece of Me Tour and sign on to do Britney: Domination. She felt cornered so she agreed in order to see her boys on the Christmas holidays in Louisiana.
Spears also revealed that she taught her backing dancers her own choreography, one of those numbers were Scream & Shout which she released rehearsal footage on social media in 2018. Spears said she was punished by her dad, management and now deceased Dr. Timothy Benson for saying "No" to a dance move and was taken off her usual medication to be put on "lithium" (a medication which is known to be used to help treat bipolar) and forced into a treatment facility.
In Spears memoir, The Woman in Me, she revealed that she walked past all the cameras and said nothing because she simply did not want do it.

Nappytabs, the creative directors for the show hinted that the songs "My Prerogative" and "Overprotected" were going to be performed in the show. However, no rehearsal footage was filmed and released. It is possible that Spears requested these songs herself as they would conceptually be fitting with the title of the show.
It is also rumored that her management did not agree with these songs being added and did not want her creative input as these song suggestions alluded to her being micromanaged. This could be part of the reason the show was cancelled.
Several rehearsal footage of a stand-in performer and Spears with her backup dancers rehearsing the following songs were posted on social media.
