American recording artist Britney Spears was responsible for opening the 2016 Billboard Music Awards ceremony held on Sunday, May 22. The renowned singer performed a show with seven of her songs.

Spears was originally set to perform her 2016 single, "Make Me...", but plans were cancelled due to a production delay, and the song was pushed back to a later summer release.
A medley of her hits was later decided as the replacement for the single and Spears received the Billboard Millennium Award for her achievements and influence in the music industry.[1]
